Newnan
A Florida point type, Middle archaic, the Newnan comes in two styles, large contracting stem and wide blades, and narrow contracting stems and narrow blades. The large ones could be knives and thrusting spears, the thinner narrow ones could be atlatl dart points. Being made of heat altered cherts and corals most Newnan's are colorful and can be found with beveled and/or serrated blade edges (rare) Description: (Anderson 1999) Wide or narrow ovate blade with sharp sweeping barbs that comes to a sharp corner in conjunction with beginning of stem. The stem is contracting, sometimes long and most times has sharp stem basal corners. Being a classic style the Newnan is a favorite with collectors and modern knappers. See Hillsborough, Levy, Alachua and Marion.
