ELKO
GENERAL DESCRIPTION : This is a small to medium sized corner notched point, with pronounced barbs and a expanded stem. There are two varieties. The Elko Corner notched has a straight to convex basal edge. the Elko Eared has concave to V-shaped basal notches the create '' ears'' on the basal corners. This point was named from examples found in Elko County, Nevada.
AGE AND CULTURE : The cultural affiliation has not yet been determined. James F. O'Connel { 1967 : 133 } indicates a carbon-14 date of 1370 B.C. to A.D. 900 for the Elko Eared and Elko corner notched. David H. Thomas { 1981} dates it from 1300 B.C. to A.D. 700.
DISTRIBUTION : Nevada, Idaho ,Southern Oregon , parts of Eastern California and a possible intrusion into Eastern Utah.
