GENERAL DESCRIPTION: These
points are very thin and well made. Usually they are long and triangular.
Most had side notches that were placed high on the blade. A few have may have
small side notches near the tip, some were not notched. the Salado point was
named by popular usage for the Salado culture that produced it.
However, it is important to know that both the Hohokam and Sinagua
cultures also produced this type. CULTURE: This point was produced by
the Hohokam, Sinagua, and more prominently the Salado culture which is
believed to have originated in the Little Colorado area and spread southward
around A.D. 1100. DISTRIBUTION : North central to mid central Arizona. Some examples
have also been found in North Western New Mexico. |
