Cumberland

Description: The Cumberland points are a medium to large size lanceolate, eared form which is usually found with fluting on both faces, or sides, of the point. Fluting and flaking are a more advanced form, like the Folsom point, with fluting usually extended over the entire length of the blade, and basal grinding on all examples found.

Cumberland points are scarce, and many reproductions of this point have occurred, so buyers beware. The main thing to look for on this point is paleo flaking, and indirect pressure fluting.

Age and Culture: Paleo Period ~ 12,000 - 8,000 B.P.

Distribution: These points are mainly found in the southeastern United States.
