ASHLEY
GENERAL DESCRIPTION : A small arrow point that has a triangular blade with straight, recurved or slightly convex edges. The shoulders are wide and flaring; barbs are pointed. the stem is oval to rounded in form and the tip is sometimes needle like. The Ashley is similar to the Alba point and has residual similarities to the earlier Agee and Homan points found farther west in Arkansas. The Ashley point was named by Martha Rollingson for examples found in Ashley County, Arkansas.
AGE AND CULTURE : The Ashley point is associated with the Bartholomew phase of the early Plaguemine culture in northeastern Arkansas, a Mississippian entity dating between A.D. 1100 and A.D. 1400.
DISTRIBUTION : Found in Ashley and Chicot counties and parts of adjoining counties in Southeastern Arkansas. The Ashley point has also been found in burials at both the Crenshaw site, Miller County Arkansas , and Spiro Mounds , Leflore County , Oklahoma.
