Hebron Turkey Tail


 Description:   Found associated with the Adena, Red Ochre, Glacial Kame and Benton Cultures. Note: This type is almost ALWAYS made from one of the hornstone related nodular flints from southern Indiana, northern Kentucky or southern Illinois. Any other material should be cause for thorough investigation.
 

Age and Culture: Late Archaic to Early Woodland 3000 B.P. to 2500 B.P.
 

Distribution: Found along the East Fork of White River in Martin County, Indiana.
still has red ochre adhering to the blades and is so stained, indicating a deposition with same, and quite possibly a part of a cache

Note: This piece was found by Steve Bateman on April Fool's Day, 1985....found by Steve's son, Scott, on the same small site, the same day was one of the most awesome hourglass bannerstones ever found. It is pictured as No. 5, pg. 94 of "The Archaic Bannerstone" by David Lutz and is also pictured at the bottom left-center on page 30/31 of "Prehistoric American", Vol. XXXVI, No. 2
