I am an A.W.O.L Texan living in Tennessee. I am 49 years old, going on 18. :-) I am a kitchen & bath/interior trim contractor. I have many interests, including guitar, water skiing, and of course my artifact collection.
How I got started collecting!
I was raised on a ranch in West Central Texas. There was a habitation site on the ranch. There was a pond there that had a spring in it that was originally the head waters of a creek. I found many pieces there when I was a kid. I also returned there about 15 years ago and found a few more pieces that are in my collection today.
What I like to Collect!
Well, all of my collection is from Texas. I have found a few pieces in Tennessee, but I am still waiting to meet fellow collectors in this area to do some more "hunting". I have pictures of my whole collection on one of my web pages. I will include the url below.
My Favorite Relic!
Well.....it does have an interesting story. My friends (fellow collectors) back in Texas were reluctant to tell me about this site that was 10 minutes from my house. They finally decided to tell me about it the day before Thanksgiving in 1985. While the wife was cooking Thanksgiving dinner that morning, I decided to go and check out the site right quick. It was a five minute drive then a ten minute walk to the site. When I arrived at the site it looked as if mortar shells had gone off there, it had been dug so thoroughly. (This was a site that had had an archaeological survey done, because they had built a lake nearby and the bulldozers had done there dirty work. This site was turned upside down and sideways. I found ancient pieces on top of modern pieces.) Anyway, I dug for about fifteen minutes and found a beautiful base tang knife, about 2 1/2"x3 3/4"x1/4" thick. To this day my favorite piece in my collection. I found several more nice pieces at this site, including an almost perfect Frio point. Here is a pic of the base tang knife:
