Peoria chert
Peoria chert was a utilized chert in the southcentral Oklahoma with highest concentrations appearing in east central and northeastern Oklahoma. This material has similarities to both Burlington chert to the northeast and Crowley Ridge to the east in Arkansas. It is a good quality very workable opaque chert that normally appears in a vibrant white, although shades of gold/tan and gray are also seen. Predominant prehistoric use was in the Archaic and Woodland periods.
