Glacial Chert

Glacial flint was flint from an unknown source that was left behind in Ohio when the glaciers receded . The glacial drift covered roughly the upper 2/3 of Ohio. Artifacts made from this material are scarce possibly because Glacial flint was difficult to work. Glacial flint is a glossy opaque stone that is typically purple, pale lavender or maroon in color with gray or white or tan splotches. Often has fossils and quartz inclusions.
