Frisco chert

Frisco chert is an interesting material seen with scattered usage in the southcentral area with most finds in western and southern parts of the state of Oklahoma. Finds from other areas are also made and appears to have been a material utilized whenever found. Most artifacts made of this material are probably in the Archaic period but other cultures also used the material. Colors range from white, blue to tan and some appears to have possibly been heat treated creating highlight colors. The makeup and quality of the material reminds me of Crescent Quarry from the northcentral area but differs in color. Primarily an opaque material with thinner artifacts made of frisco displaying some semi-translucency.
