Brushcreek/Crooksville

Some outcrops occur in Adams, Vinton, Athens Perry and Morgan Counties Ohio and Western Virginia. Color can be from light brown to tan with a few orange sploches on weathered pieces. Patinates to redish brown with some light molting. Contains fossils of sponges and brachiopod fragments, and has an earthy luster with a cherty texture and semi-glossy ocher or mustard colored cortex. The stone is porous and rough, not lending itself to delicate chipping. NEED PICTURES!
